Women of Water volunteers support Our Village
This month, members of Service Stream's Women of Water (WoW) program in Victoria spent the day volunteering at Our Village, a charity based in Clayton that provides essential items for babies and children to families in need.
Operating from a large warehouse facility, Our Village receives donations of baby and children's items from across the community. These items are carefully assessed, cleaned, sorted and distributed to families experiencing hardship, helping provide practical support while reducing unnecessary waste.
Throughout the day, the team assisted with a range of activities. During the morning session, volunteers cleaned donated items including car seats, highchairs and baby bouncers to ensure they were safe, hygienic and ready for reuse. In the afternoon, the team sorted and organised donated clothing and accessories by size and condition, helping streamline the distribution process for families requiring support.
The experience also highlighted Our Village's strong commitment to sustainability. Items unsuitable for reuse are responsibly recycled through specialised recycling programs, ensuring that as much material as possible is diverted from landfill.
“Volunteering at Our Village was both a rewarding and humbling experience. It was a great opportunity to give back to the community, work alongside colleagues, and see firsthand the positive impact organisations like Our Village have on families in need,” said Sam Peart, Utilities Assistant.
Service Stream would like to thank Our Village for welcoming our team and for the important work they do to support vulnerable families across Victoria.
