Service Stream Electrical and Instrumentation apprentice Baylee George has been named a finalist in the 2026 TAFE Queensland SkillsTech CSQ Apprentice Awards.
The annual awards celebrate apprentices for their outstanding commitment to building their skills and making a positive contribution to their trade and their workplace.
Throughout her apprenticeship, Baylee has demonstrated a strong work ethic and a genuine commitment to learning, taking on increasingly complex work and building her capability across electrical systems, instrumentation, control systems and automation.
A standout example has been her work on an odour control system upgrade, which began as a routine maintenance task before Baylee identified a much broader system issue.
Taking ownership of the challenge, Baylee investigated the fault, developed and presented a detailed proposal for the upgrade and worked with operations, planners, automation specialists and suppliers to bring the project to life.
When unexpected technical challenges arose during delivery, Baylee adapted the proposed solution to keep the project moving while still achieving significant improvements to the reliability and functionality of the system. She then played a key role in installation, calibration and commissioning, including identifying and rectifying an earthing fault during commissioning.
The project demonstrated Baylee's growing technical expertise, as well as her initiative, resilience and ability to communicate and work effectively across different teams and disciplines.
Baylee's development throughout her apprenticeship and willingness to take ownership of complex challenges have earned the confidence of her supervisors and colleagues and reflect the contribution she continues to make to the wider team.
Congratulations to Baylee on this well-deserved recognition, and to her manager, Phillip Capewell, and the wider team for their ongoing support of Baylee throughout her apprenticeship.
Winners will be announced at the 2026 TAFE Queensland SkillsTech CSQ Apprentice Awards in Brisbane on 22 October.
