Art
Peninsula Link features a collection of permanent and temporary art installations designed to enrich the experience for the local community and visitors.
Before the freeway opened in January 2013, Southern Way partnered with McClelland Gallery + Sculpture Park to commission 14 unique artworks over 25 years,
The Southern Way McClelland Commission oversees the selection and installation of sculptures on Peninsula Link.
Two sculpture sites are located at Skye Road and Cranbourne Road in Frankston—both exit points providing access to McClelland Gallery + Sculpture Park. Every two years, new semi-permanent sculptures are installed at these sites. After two years on display, each artwork becomes part of the permanent McClelland Sculpture Park + Gallery collection, making way for the next commissioned piece.
Featured works:
- Compass by Natasha Johns-Messenger was installed in 2023. The shapes align with the cardinal directions of North, South, East and West, and lights up to appear floating in the night.
- Tree of life by Phill Price was a distinctive part of the landscape for two years before being removed on 1 July 2015 to make way for new artwork. This sculpture now forms part of McClelland’s permanent collection.
