Service Stream is delivering comprehensive Property and Asset Services on behalf of Defence’s Security and Estate Group across South Australia and the Northern Territory. Specialist teams support 113 Defence sites and training facilities, including eight major bases. Services include estate upkeep, land management, aerodrome operations, and training area and range management.

Since the contract award in September 2025, Service Stream’s mobilisation team worked extensively to prepare for contract commencement. During this period, the team delivered a comprehensive mobilisation program, including a series of in-person and virtual employee and subcontractor roadshow information sessions, as well as direct site visits across South Australia and the Northern Territory, in close collaboration with the Security and Estate Group team members. These activities supported operational readiness and helped enable a safe, seamless transition from day one of operations.

To mark the commencement of operations, Service Stream held employee and subcontractor meet-and-greet events across South Australia and the Northern Territory. These events formally welcomed new team members, recognised the critical role of specialist subcontractors, and reinforced a shared commitment to safe, reliable and high-quality service delivery for Defence.

Two particularly significant highlights were the contract blessing ceremonies held at RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia and Robertson Barracks in the Northern Territory. These ceremonies included a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony to formally signify the start of operations at each base. The ceremonies reflected Service Stream’s respect for First Nations culture and our commitment to building strong, inclusive partnerships in the communities in which we operate.

Service Stream Managing Director, Leigh Mackender, said the commencement of the contract represents a major milestone for the company as it enters the Defence sector and begins a significant new chapter for the business.

“We are proud to partner with Defence to support their capability and readiness through the delivery of critical base services across South Australia and the Northern Territory, and we look forward to building a strong, long-term partnership,” said Leigh.

“The scale and complexity of this contract reflect Service Stream’s capability to deliver essential services in highly operational environments, and the successful mobilisation of this workforce demonstrates the dedication and professionalism of our people.”

The contract has an initial term of six years, with two extension options of between one and three years, allowing for a maximum term of up to 10 years. It is valued at approximately $1.6 billion over the initial six-year term and is supported by approximately 350 employees and a network of specialist contractors.

Structured to adapt to Australia’s evolving strategic environment, the contract enables Service Stream to respond flexibly to changing operational requirements, military exercises, and government priorities, while delivering essential services that support Defence capability and readiness.
