Service Stream is proud to be recognised at the 2025 National Safety Awards of Excellence, taking home the award for Best Communication of a Safety Message for our innovative Harness Up campaign.

Developed by our Utilities team, the campaign was designed to strengthen critical safety behaviours for solar installers working at height. Through engaging visual reminders, tailored safety tools, site signage and the introduction of our now-famous safety mascot, Derek the Dill, the initiative has helped ensure crews apply the correct safety controls every time they step onto a roof.

The award was accepted on the night by campaign creators Shannen Rumney, Ian Donald and Kelly Callanan, who each played a key role in bringing the concept to life.

“Our Harness Up campaign reinforces what we stand for - leaders who lead by example and a genuine commitment to ensuring our people go home safely at the end of every day,” said Darren Kuchel, Group Head of Safety. “This award reflects the strength of our safety culture and the passion our teams have for continuous improvement.”

Service Stream also congratulates our Telecommunications team, whose MICS Catch Net System was named a finalist in the Best Solution to a WHS Risk (Large Business) category. The system supports safer tower work by reducing exclusion zones at the base of telecommunications structures, another demonstration of our people developing practical solutions to reduce risk and protect workers.

The National Safety Awards of Excellence shine a spotlight on organisations leading the way in health, safety and wellbeing across Australian workplaces. Being recognised among this year’s finalists and winners highlights our ongoing commitment to keeping our people, contractors and communities safe.

Congratulations to everyone involved – a well-deserved celebration of safety leadership and innovation across Service Stream.
