Service Stream awarded two new ITS contracts in Victoria
Service Stream has been awarded two new Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) maintenance contracts by the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning. These contracts further strengthen our role in supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of Victoria’s road network.
The Victoria West ITS Maintenance Contract will see Service Stream maintain more than 4,500 ITS assets across 27 Local Government Areas, covering approximately one third of metropolitan Melbourne and extending west to the South Australian Border.
The contract covers a broad range of critical transport technology, including traffic control and vehicle detection systems, incident and speed management systems, travel information and warning systems, lighting and supporting utility systems.
Service Stream has also been awarded the Motorway Communications Network Contract, covering the management and maintenance of the core communications network underpinning Victoria’s managed motorway system.
This critical network connects more than 2,000 ITS roadside devices across Victoria’s motorways, including lane use management signs, variable speed limit signs, freeway ramp signals, CCTV and sensor technologies. It also provides important connectivity between private road operators’ transport systems and Transport for Victoria’s transport control system.
Under the two contracts, Service Stream will provide a comprehensive range of routine and reactive maintenance services including program management, asset monitoring and inspections, servicing, fault management and rectification, inventory and condition surveys, operation and maintenance of supporting systems, and network operations support.
Service Stream Managing Director, Leigh Mackender, said the contracts build on the Group’s established transport capability and reflect its continued growth in maintaining critical infrastructure across Australia.
“The award of these two long-term maintenance agreements reinforces Service Stream’s position as a leading provider of transport technology and network maintenance services. The award further strengthens the Group’s maintenance portfolio and bolsters annuity-style work-in-hand revenues,” said Leigh.
The contracts have an initial term of five years each, with two further two-year extension options. The contracts are expected to commence on 1 December 2026.
