Milson Park Project awarded Outstanding Sustainability Project
The Milson Park Project was awarded Outstanding Sustainability Project at the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue's Boomtown! Project of the Year Awards Gala Dinner last week.
Service Stream was engaged to undertake the works at Milson Park on behalf of Sydney Water and the City of Parramatta. The project brought together local and state agencies, and catchment groups, in an innovative collaborative approach to design, construct and maintain a vegetated stormwater system in a concerted effort to better manage water quality across Sydney.
The park reopened in 2023 and is back to buzzing with locals utilising the various spaces, shelters and inclusions, including a new bird hide for avid bird watchers.
One of the key sustainability achievements from the project is the 13,400 kilogram reduction in litter entering the waterways thanks to the new gross pollutant traps, helping improve the overall health of the Parramatta River and connected waterways.
“We were proud to bring Sydney Water's vision to reality and share in the achievements and celebrations for this innovative project,” says Zakaria Bernard, Senior Project Manager Service Stream.
“But more so, we remain proud to deliver a fit-for-purpose stormwater solution that will continue to enhance the liveability and sustainability of the Sydney area through healthier and better managed waterways.”
The Milson Park project was also recognised at the Local Government NSW – Excellence in Environment Awards in December last year and was a Finalist in the NSW Heads of Water Awards earlier this year.
