Service Stream’s disaster response capability has been proudly demonstrated across Australia in recent months.

Extreme weather events have seen our expert Telecommunications maintenance team mobilise disaster response plans and respond quickly to keep communities connected to essential infrastructure networks.

Over the year-end holiday break, wild weather bore down on Queensland resulting in a surge of urgent work orders. In preparation for the storm, our surge management plan was implemented, putting additional work crews on the ground ready to respond and reconnect affected end users in a timely manner. Additional crews from New South Wales were redirected to Queensland to assist in ensuring the local communities remained connected.

Recent heat waves in Western Australia made conditions challenging but with extra care and preparation, our crews maintained service levels and network connectivity for our client’s end users while staying safe and well despite the scorching temperatures.

The sudden and destructive weather event in Victoria in February saw crews respond to an unprecedented 59% increase in work orders. With so many trees falling on powerlines and causing power to be lost to the FTTN Technology and their associated street side cabinets across the affected areas, generator deployment formed a large part of the initial response to reconnect end users until permanent restorations to power could be made.

Responding to extreme weather events can be challenging, especially when conditions are still unfolding. Service Stream ensures rigorous safety and welfare processes are in place across all deployments to maintain the safety of our crews and community members at all times.

“Our Telco maintenance teams are highly experienced in disaster preparedness and response. We have the specialist skillset and ability to scale up resources to respond quickly to the surge and restore lost connectivity in a safe and timely manner,” says Gavin Rudrum, Service Stream’s Telecommunications General Manager – Operations and Maintenance.

“Wind, hail or shine, Service Stream’s dedicated teams can be counted on to keep communities connected to the essential infrastructure networks they depend on every day.”
