A powerful safety reminder
Our Operations and Maintenance team at Loy Yang A Power Station, recently had the honour of hosting Theo Venter, an incredibly powerful keynote speaker, whose message on workplace safety resonated deeply with everyone present.
Theo graciously shared his personal story of a workplace incident, which resulted in 22kV and 1,200A of electricity passing through his body, to highlight the importance of safety protocols and demonstrate the personal toll that workplace incidents and injuries cause everyone around them.
His journey from a blue-collar worker to a renowned safety advocate is nothing short of inspiring. Despite immense challenges, including battles with depression, Theo emerged stronger and highly driven by the conviction that every worker deserves a safe environment – something that we too believe and wholeheartedly strive for at Service Stream.
“Theo’s charismatic charm, relatability to our workforce and tears that were shed, took us all on an emotional journey which embedded our Walk, Talk, Lead, Care safety leadership culture one step further,” says Luke Webber, Health & Safety Business Partner – Loy Yang A Power Station.
“Theo’s powerful message underscores why safety isn't just a rule to follow but a commitment to oneself, and to those who depend on us. We can all honour Theo’s courage by prioritising safety every single day and continuing to ensure that every workplace is a haven where everyone can thrive without fear.”
“By staying vigilant and keeping safety front of mind, we can build a future where incidents are intercepted before they happen.”
