Job Description Summary

This role plays a critical part in supporting Defence Operations by managing end-to-end purchasing and supplier management activities for the Defence Contract. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Purchasing Specialist is responsible for sourcing materials and services, building strong supplier relationships, and coordinating with freight providers to ensure timely and accurate delivery aligned with operational needs across South Australia and the Northern Territory. Working closely with Operations and key stakeholders, the position ensures compliant, cost-effective procurement outcomes that enable efficient service delivery and positive client results.

About the Role

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with Operations teams to understand material requirements, align procurement activities with client SLA’s and provide practical, timely solutions that ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Accountable for sourcing and selecting suppliers, managing ongoing supplier relationships, and monitoring performance to ensure reliability, quality, and continuous improvement end to end.
  • Source goods and services in a timely and cost-effective manner to support operational continuity and asset performance.
  • Monitor delivery and service execution, expediting orders and works where required to minimise downtime and ensure compliance with maintenance schedules and SLAs.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and suppliers to resolve supply-related issues such as service delivery discrepancies, non-conformances, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Raise, issue, and manage Purchase Orders for facilities, maintenance, and asset-related goods and services through the company ERP system or client portals.
  • Maintain Purchase Orders throughout their lifecycle, including variations, updates, and timely closure, ensuring accurate delivery schedules and service completion dates.

Experience required

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Purchasing and Supply Chain operations
  • Hands-on experience of working with ERP systems
  • Extensive experience in sourcing suppliers, products and services under direct or indirect categories
  • Prior working experience in as team leader role or second in charge (2IC) for purchasing function is highly desired
  • Strong communication and relationship building capabilities with internal/external stakeholders
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office specially Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Positive and proactive attitude 
  • Ability to make decisions autonomously
  • Tertiary degree in relevant field desirable 
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
